ACR Electronics’ new Shellback Intrinsically Safe Buoy Rescue Lite emergency light system is designed to attach to rescue life buoys, life rings or other flotation devices.
The light emits a steady, minimum output of two candela and is visible in all directions up to 2 miles. Two cuprous iodide/magnesium water-activated batteries connected in series provide an operational life in excess of two hours. The batteries have a five-year replacement life and will retain their full energy potential as long as they are kept dry.
The system includes two components, the light itself and a separate enclosed mounting bracket, which attaches to a bulkhead, railing or other firm surface in proximity to the life buoy. A lanyard is attached between the light and the life buoy. When the buoy is removed from its mounting position, the light is also pulled out of its bracket. This action also frees the plugs that seal the battery equipment, preparing the water-activated batteries for use. The light will turn on automatically when the flotation device to which it is attached is thrown overboard. As the battery chamber fills with water, the light will right it and begin to operate in less than 60 seconds.
The suggested retail price is $150.
