Make Dock Line Storage a Snap

by Chris Caswell

Your boat may have a locker near the stern for storing gear, such as fenders and docklines, but everything inside can quickly turn into a tangled mess -- especially when you need a line or fender quickly. Here's how to avoid that situation.

On the underside of the lifting hatch, add several Velcro-type fastener loops (found at any marine hardware store) for hanging your coiled dock lines. Two eyes and a length of snug shock cord across the hatch at a lower point will hold the lines in place until needed. This leaves the rest of your locker for fenders, which don't tangle as easily as dock lines.

To store the lines, just pass the Velcro hook fastener tab through the coil and back to the Velcro loop pad on the hatch. The lower part of the coiled line goes inside the shock cord, and you're done.
